AWESOME ICELAND IN WINTER

Fully Booked

I’m excited to announce I will be leading another winter workshop in Iceland in February 2025.

The trip will cover all the key locations on Iceland’s south coast, including Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, Vik with its photogenic church, black sand beach and dramatic rock stacks (Reynisdrangar), Reynisfjara, Dyrholaey, Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon and the legendary Iceberg beach, Fjallsarlon glacial lagoon, Stokksnes, Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn. If time permits we’ll also visit the Svinafellsjokull glacier. An optional ice cave tour will also be offered for £100 per person

From the south coast we’ll head to the west of Iceland and the wild Snaefellsnes Peninsula, home to the famous ‘witches hat’ mountain known as Kirkjufell, the remote churches at Budir and Ingjaldsholl, the dramatic cliffs at Arnastapi and more.

Running the trip in February means that we’ll also be in the middle of the Aurora season, and though I can’t guarantee that we’ll see the amazing Northern Lights, I will keep an eye on the aurora forecast and be prepared to head out every night if there’s a chance of a sighting.

On arrival at Keflavik airport on the first day, we will make the long drive down towards Jokulsarlon and spend three nights in the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon. From there we will spend two nights in the Fosshotel Vatnajokull, which gives us easy access to Hofn, Stokksnes, Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn. The next two nights will be spent in Vik at Hotel Vik y Myrdal so we can explore and shoot locations in that area, before we drive to Snaefellsnes for two nights in the Fosshotel Stykkishólmur. The final night will be spent in Hotel Keilir in Keflavik so we’re close to the airport for our return flights. There are some great locations not far from Keflavik on the Reykjanes Peninsula, so if time and weather permits on the last evening, we’ll photograph them too.

Winter is a fantastic time to visit and photograph Iceland. The frozen landscape can be spectacular, and though the days are quite short (sunrise around 10.00am and sunset around 5.30pm), the sun remains low in the sky, so the quality of light is high from dawn to dusk. The twilights are also very long at either end of the day, so we can manage a good 10 hours of photography, plus any night excursions for the aurora.

Check out my Iceland portfolios on this website to get a better idea of the locations we’ll cover.

Advice on flights, equipment, clothing etc will be provided, but if you have any queries, feel free to email me on info@photoadventures.co.uk.
