AWESOME ICELAND IN WINTER 2026
Last Place!
Due to the overwhelming demand for my Iceland winter workshops, I have decided to run another trip in February 2026 to 'The land of fire and ice'.
The trip will cover all the key locations on Iceland’s south coast, and the wild Snaefellsnes Peninsula on the west coast. An optional ice cave tour will also be offered for around £150 per person.
Running the trip in winter means that we’ll also be in the middle of the Aurora season, and though I can’t guarantee that we’ll see the amazing Northern Lights, I will keep an eye on the aurora forecast and be prepared to head out if there’s a reasonable chance of a sighting - which is dependent on both the predicted aurora activity and the level of cloud cover.
On arrival at Keflavik airport on the first day, we'll drive approx 2 1/2 hours to Hotel Skogarfoss, which is a stone's throw from one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls - Skogarfoss! It's a great spot for shooting the Aurora, so if the skies are clear, we can be out with our cameras in a matter of minutes. The next 2 nights will be spent in the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, which is perfecly-located for our forays to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, the legenday Diamond Beach and Fjallsarlon lagoon. We'll also exlore an ice cave under the vast Vatnajokull Glacier. From there we will spend two nights in the town of Hofn, which gives us easy access to the magnificent mountains of Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn and the stunning coastline at Laekjavik. The next two nights will be spent in Vik at Hotel Vik y Myrdal so we can shoot the volcanic black sand beach in Vik itself, picturesque Vik Church, Reynisfjara beach, Reynisdrangar rock stacks and the dramatic headland of Dyrholaey, before we drive to Snaefellsnes for two nights in the Fosshotel Stykkishólmur. On Snaefellsnes we'll capture Kirkjufell (Church Mountain) at dawn and dusk, Budir Church, Gatklettur rock arch at Arnestapi and much more. The final night will be spent in Hotel Keilir in Keflavik so we’re close to the airport for our return flights.
Winter is a fantastic time to visit and photograph Iceland. The frozen landscape (weather permitting) can be spectacular, and though the days are quite short (sunrise around 9.00am and sunset around 6.00pm), the sun remains low in the sky, so the quality of light is high from dawn to dusk. The twilights are also very long at either end of the day, so we can manage a good 10 hours of photography, plus any night excursions for the aurora.
Check out my Iceland portfolios on this website to get a better idea of the locations we’ll cover.
Advice on flights, equipment, clothing etc will be provided, but if you have any queries, feel free to email me on info@photoadventures.co.uk.
