LONDON CREATIVE TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP
After running my first multi-day London workshop for many years in October 2024, I've decided to repeat it in October 2026 (I'm too busy in 2025!).
London is one of the world’s most vibrant, exciting and diverse cities, with almost endless photographic opportunities. From cutting-edge architecture and ancient monuments, to abstracts and action, ‘The Big Smoke’ has it all in abundance, and the aim of this workshop is to cover all key locations, at the best time of day, as well as to experiment with creative techniques such as long exposure photography, ICM (Intentional camera movement), infrared, night and low-light photography and more.
We’ll meet at the hotel on the afternoon of the first day and shoot the sunset/twilight, then we’ll enjoy three more full days of photography from before sunrise until after sunset. The workshop will end after sunset on the final day.
We won’t follow a set itinerary, but instead see how each day unfolds and choose locations/subjects to suit the light and weather. Dawn locations will include The London Eye/Houses of Parliament and Thames views towards Tower Bridge. Sunset/dusk locations will be near St Katherine’s Dock, the Millenium Bridge and Docklands. Between times, we’ll shoot architecture, details and abstracts at locations such as The London Eye, Paternoster Square, Canary Wharf, More London, Tate Modern and Millennium Bridge and capture landmark buildings such as The Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, The Gherkin and City Hall. There will also be the opportunity to shoot long exposures with your ‘extreme’ ND filter, and if you own an infrared-converted camera, it will be worth bringing that along too.
If we get rain at any stage, we can concentrate on indoor subjects – London is home to some beautiful spiral staircases in buildings such as The Queen’s House at Greenwich and Tate Britain, plus the museums offer free entry and photography is permitted – The Natural History Museum and Tate Modern are favourites of mine.
We’ll travel around London mostly using the Underground network, but there will also be times when it’s easier to walk from location to location, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. Exepct to cover aroubd 20,000 steps each day.
If you live in London, you have the option to stay at home and meet us each day and I will deduct the cost of accommodation from the workshop price.
